Flow

‘Flow’ is one of my favorite words. I think it’s a lovely, concise little gem. It can be both a noun and a verb, but even as a noun, it still embodies and requires movement. It’s fluid and flexible, with a variety of applicable media. It brings a lot to the table with one simple syllable, and as a writer, I appreciate a word that can do that.

So flow is, I think, one of the things that intrigues me most about knowledge management. It’s what draws me further in: the flow that connects all the different pieces; the people, their stories, the content, the data, even. They are all connected by that single syllable carrying them through conduit systems and landscapes that we build and cultivate.

Different areas have different flows, and volume doesn’t fully dictate force. There is a flow even in the field of knowledge management itself, and last week I stepped right into it. A giant river with a strong current carrying fish, bugs, stones, and all sorts of things for me to observe and make sense of.

And that’s what this blog will be. My field journal for knowledge management. I will ask questions, and work on solutions, but I likely won’t have answers. I invite correction and conversation. I’m here to learn out loud.

It’s a quick introduction, but it was important to me to provide that context before I get going. And now, to get going.
